Good weekend getting a lot done inside and outside! Enjoyed today – having friends over … some to help with first-time puppy baths and some for the Seahawks game. Weather was fantastic for both! Thank you Kathy Walimaki-Thomas for taking pictures, and Fran Stephens, Robert Lix and Trisa Hansen for helping bathe, snuggle and dry the kids. Thank you Tatiana Moses and Lori Parrish for helping keep the football fans taken care of!
Puppies are now 5-1/2 weeks old and personalities starting to become more evident. Legs (finally) are growing so proportions are becoming better. Loving the consistency in the look (heads) and proportions (just off square). Pink Girl is moving up over Red Girl, with Green Girl also in the top three.
Everything seems to be going well with the puppies. They are fed 3 times a day (NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy) – we always soak the kibble with water to soften, and add in some goat’s milk. In the morning I occasionally top it off with plain yogurt. When we bring Daisy in to their area, they still try to feed off her. With their sharp little teeth she as incentive, she is constantly on the move!
Today the puppies were moved off the dog deck and onto the “grass” (we don’t really have a lawn) which was fun. Watching to see their adjustment period – for some (Pink Girl and Black Boy) there wasn’t any need for adjustment and off they went.
Catching up on past posts starting today and working back …
The puppies are adjusting well to the mush we’re feeding them (3x/day) and they are pooping in the shavings! So yeah they’ve learned that already! They urinate all over, but don’t have the bladder control yet so I’m not worried. Just glad they “got it” about going in the shavings.
Warm weather days means not much playing. Mostly eating, sleeping and pooping with more play time in the cool morning or early evening.
Picked up a kiddie slide for the puppies – gives them something to climb on and learn to control where they’re going on the gentle slide slope. Also something to chew on! I was happy to see that they weren’t timid about approaching it. First puppy to approach was Green Girl.
Most pigment is filled in and I think because we moved them out on the dog deck they are moving around a lot – more space and more air/cooler as we’ve been having warm days.
Puppies were wormed at 4 weeks old. Starting weaning the puppies at 3-1/2 weeks — hoping for more consistent weight gain, especially with the smaller kids (Teal Girl, Silver Girl).
Green Girl – almost 4 lbs. (63.5 oz.)
Teal Girl – almost 3 lbs. (48 oz.)
Orange Boy – almost 4 lbs. (63.8 oz.)
Yellow Girl – almost 3.5 lbs. (54.2 oz.)
Red Girl – almost 4 lbs. (63.7 oz.)
Blue Boy – just over 3.5 lbs. (58.2 oz.)
Silver Girl – just over 3 lbs. (52.4 oz.)
Pink Girl – almost 4 lbs. (63.6 oz.)
Black Boy – almost 3.5 lbs. (54.4 oz.)
Head pieces are consistent – like how they look.
Will add the weights tomorrow – want to get the pictures in tonight before I’m too tired!
Weight gain continues. All eyes open and pigment coming in. Instead of dragging their bodies across the whelping box, several are pushing up and moving forward! Heads and muzzles are blockier.
Blue 2 lb. 5 oz.
Black 2 lb. 1 oz.
Orange 2 lb. 7 oz.
Red 2 lb. 9 oz.
Pink 2 lb. 5 oz.
Teal 1 lb. 8 oz.
Silver 2 lb. 1 oz.
Yellow 1 lb. 15 oz.
Green 2 lb. 3 oz.
Quick update with weights and observations–proper pictures will come tonight or tomorrow, I promise!
Everyone’s eyes are open; pigment is filling in nicely; red is the only one with visible biscuit markings so far.

Sorry about the late update! We’ve spent so much time planning and preparing for these puppies, and now that they’re here all of our well laid intentions have gone out the window! Between work and home and puppies and the other dogs and shows… I promise to be more diligent about updating though, since I know that’s what you guys have been waiting for.
So. Nine puppies were born to Daisy on August 6th, 2014. There were six (SIX!) girls and three boys, all well formed and healthy and ranging in weights from 12-18 oz. My very good friend Trisa was there on hand to help with the entire delivery, which went incredibly smoothly.
It’s that time again! Took Daisy in for an x-ray on Monday, July 27th. Result: EIGHT, possibly NINE! *blinks* Here we go again….
I’m excited about this though. Or I will be, once puppies are born and healthy and thriving. Right now it’s stress and hurry hurry hurry to get things ready before next Monday (eeek!) At least I’ve got the puppy blog here mostly set up. I’m also planning on adding a way for you guys to subscribe and automatically receive a notice when we update.
We will NOT be contacting prospective families until AFTER puppies are born and are steadily thriving with no issues. That usually means about a week after they are born. I will be posting a puppy questionnaire which you will need to fill out completely to the best of your ability.
